Lessons and Training

Many Hong Kong golfers spend lots of money buying new golf equipment and very little money on golf lessons in Hong Kong. They have the impression that the new equipment will improve their golf and take their game to a whole new level. This is one of the reasons why amateurs never seem to get better. Here is why you should invest in golf lessons in Hong Kong with Kim Inglis at City Links Golf.

New golf equipment is very nice to have and the improvements in technology do help you to play better, but only to a certain extent. The clubs are only the tool Hong Kong golfers use to play golf. The method or skill behind using the clubs effectively are entirely dependent on the golfer's ability.

So why is it that many Hong Kong golfers buy new clubs rather than invest in golf lessons? I'll tell you why. It all comes down to image. If you are seen with the latest and best golf clubs, most people assume you to be quite a good player because you look the part. That is until you swing the club. Then the truth comes out and you turn out not to be as good as you appeared to be.

This is a problem. Firstly you want to impress your mates and will only do so by playing better. Secondly you want to get the most out of your new clubs. I'm not saying don't buy new golf clubs. Of course you must try have the best equipment available. All I am saying is that you should consider taking some lessons to get the maximum benefit and satisfaction from your clubs.

There are many different golf lessons in Hong Kong you can have. They range from personal one-on-one lessons with a recognised teaching PGA Pro, or buying books and DVDs that explain graphically how to play better golf.

PGA Pro's are wonderful coaches to have as they are excellent players and have a lot of talent and will help you to correct your swing to play better. The only problem is that they cost a lot of money to hire and are not always available when you need them.

Instructional books and DVDs are good for some, but not for me. The benefits of having them are as follows. You buy them once off, they don't cost a fortune, they provide great step-by-step instruction and are available for you to refer to whenever you need them. There are many excellent golf instructional DVDs and e-books on the market today that can potentially teach you a lot more about the game of golf than any PGA Pro could and these books and DVDs cover a wide range of topics to do with golf improvement.

So here is a a tip for all Hong Kong golfers who wish to improve their game the cost effective way. Buy golf instructional DVDs, e-books and training aids and after watching or reading them practice what they teach at a driving range. Then if you still struggle with a particular aspect of your game, go visit you local PGA Pro for additional help.

TaylorMade Golf Hong Introduces R9 SuperDeep TP

TaylorMade Golf Hong Kong, the No. 1 driver brand in golf, proudly introduces the R9™ SuperDeep TP, a pure player's driver descended from the 300 Tour and R510 TP, both legendary among tour pros and highly skilled players playing golf in Hong Kong.

The R9 SuperDeep TP driver is engineered to promote a mid launch-angle and low spin-rate for strong swingers who tend to launch the ball too high and with too much spin with other drivers. The ultra-deep clubface (2.55 inches tall) is the deepest of any TaylorMade Hong Kong driver ever, and the head height is equal to the USGA limit (2.8 inches). The head is also more compact from heel to toe than other drivers like R9 SuperTri and Burner® SuperFast. This gives R9 SuperDeep TP a lower MOI which, combined with its forward CG location makes it more workable for players who like to shape their tee shots.

Its combination of Flight Control Technology (FCT) and Movable Weight Technology™ gives you a choice of 448 possible launch condition combinations. R9 SuperDeep TP comes equipped with Aldila's new R.I.P. graphite shaft with Reverse Interlaminar Placement technology, which delivers low torque while promoting increased hoop strength and increased tip stability.

Appearance-wise, R9 SuperDeep features an all-black finish, including the clubface, and includes TaylorMade's famous TP logo on the toe, and comes with an all-black headcover with magnetic closure.

"This driver isn't for everybody," said Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade senior director of metalwood development. "It was created for the select few who generate a rare combination of high clubhead speed, high clubhead control and high smash factor. If you're that player, this is the driver you've been waiting for."

TaylorMade Introduces Burner® SuperFast TP

Sleek Black Finish and Tour Preferred Face Alignment Combined with Burner SuperFast’s Aerodynamic Head

Burner SuperFast TPCARLSBAD, Calif. (May 18, 2010) – TaylorMade Golf Hong Kong is launching a TP version of its popular Burner SuperFast driver. Available to tour pros since March, the Burner SuperFast TP has been put in play by Retief Goosen, Y.E. Yang, Rory Sabbatini, Mike Weir, Pat Perez, Jason Day, Fred Funk, Justin Rose and Vaughn Taylor. Yang used it in April to win the Volvo China Open on the European Tour.

"The players who have put Burner SuperFast TP in play have done so mostly because they're getting more ball speed and distance with it," said Keith Sbarbaro, TaylorMade's vice president of tour operations. "The aerodynamics of the head promote more clubhead speed, and the big face and high MOI allow them to go after the ball more. Vaughn Taylor has never been considered a long hitter. A player came to our tour trailer and asked for a Burner SuperFast TP because he couldn't believe how far Vaughn was hitting it past him in a practice round."

The Burner SuperFast TP features a fast, aerodynamic head shape, expansive clubface and slightly open clubface alignment. The inner side of the clubface incorporates TaylorMade's renowned Inverted Cone Technology, which promotes faster ball speed on off-center hits. The Burner SuperFast TP driver also incorporates TaylorMade's proven Dual-Crown technology, which both lowers and pulls back the center of gravity to promote a higher launch angle and less spin. Introduced in the TaylorMade Golf Hong Kong Tour Burner driver two years ago, and also used in the Burner 09, Dual Crown technology is tremendously valuable. The Burner SuperFast TP driver is finished entirely in black, including the sole and clubface, and features a tour-inspired crown graphic and the famous TP logo on the toe.

Also critical to the Burner SuperFast TP driver's performance are its new Matrix shaft configurations, which promote a piercing, Tour-like ball flight and a stable feel. The Matrix HD6 (65 grams) shaft is in the S and X flexes, while the Matrix XCON 5 (54 grams) is the standard R-flex shaft. At 46.0" in length, Burner SuperFast automatically promotes a wide swing arc to promote increased clubhead speed. Available in three right-handed lofts (8.5, 9.5, 10.5) and one left-handed (9.5). Availability begins on May 15, 2010 at a street price of $299.

Zach Johnson's Colonial win highlights four-win week for Titleist Hong Kong

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. -- The unmatched golf ball performance story of Titleist Hong Kong continues across the worldwide professional tours, highlighted by Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson's tournament record 21-under par performance at Colonial. Fellow Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald went wire-to-wire to win the European Tour's Madrid Masters. And Tom Lehman trusting the Pro V1 captured his first Champions Tour major in a sudden death playoff at the Senior PGA Championship. 23-year-old Titleist Brand Ambassador Kyung-Tae Kim's breakthrough performance with the Pro V1x earned him his first Japan Golf Tour title at the Diamond Cup. Consistent performance from tee-to-green. It's why one ball is trusted more around the world.

TITLEIST ON TOUR HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 30, 2010
PGA TOUR: Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson staged an impressive weekend charge, shooting his second straight round of 6-under 64 on Sunday to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial by two strokes. After opening up his round with a pair of birdies, the 2007 Masters champion birdied five of his final nine holes, despite two weather delays, and posted a new tournament record of 21-under 259.

Ben Crane (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909H hybrid, New AP2 irons, Vokey Spin Milled wedges) posted his fifth top-10 finish of the season, shooting 17-under 263 to tie Jeff Overton (Pro V1x, Vokey Spin Milled sand wedge), who was coming off a co-runner-up finish at last week's HP Byron Nelson Championship, for third place. Titleist Brand Ambassador Bryce Molder (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F2 fairway metal, New CB irons, Vokey Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport 2.7 Studio Select putter) also posted his fifth top-ten finish of the 2010 PGA TOUR season. The 54-hole co-leader shot an even-par final round 70 to tie Scott Verplank (Pro V1, Vokey Spin Milled wedges) for fifth place.

The win marks the seventh career championship for the 34-year-old Johnson on the PGA Tour. He led the field in birdies for the week with 24 as well as Greens in Regulation (84.7%). Johnson also hit 69.6% of the fairways at Colonial, tying for 10th in that category and ranked 11th in Putts per Green in Regulation (1.656).

What's in Zach Johnson's Bag?: Titleist Pro V1x, 909D2 driver (8.5), 909F2 fairway metals (13.5, 18.5), 909H hybrid (21.0), New AP1 4-iron, New AP2 irons (5-9), Vokey Design Spin Milled pitching (48), sand (54) and lob (60) wedges.

Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial with 76 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 15. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 36; SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 99; and PUTTERS with 44.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Luke Donald (Pro V1x), who turned in a runner-up finish at last week's BMW Championship, improved his showing by a place this week, hoisting the trophy at the Madrid Masters. Donald finished one shot clear of European Tour rookie Rhys Davies (Pro V1) to claim his first European Tour title in six years, and his first official victory since the 2006 Honda Classic. Donald and Davies were tied for much of the tournament, but with an eagle on 16 to Davies' birdie, Donald took the lead for good. The victory will propel Luke Donald back into the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since July, 2007. Rhys Davies, 2003 British Boys Amateur Champion, is the current front runner for European Tour Rookie of the Year. He won his first title at the Trophee Hassan in Morocco two months ago, one of his five top-ten finishes in 14 starts. The young Welshman is currently ninth in the Race to Dubai standings, the only rookie among the top 15.

Titleist was the GOLF BALL of choice at the Madrid Masters with 82 players, more than all other golf balls combined.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: With his fellow competitors in trouble off the tee, Tom Lehman (Pro V1, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron GSS putter) split the final fairway on Sunday, setting up a par on the first playoff hole that would earn him his first senior major title at the Senior PGA Championship at Colorado Golf Club. David Frost (Pro V1x, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron putter) was one of two players who joined the playoff after Lehman shot his third straight 1-under 71 to finish at 7-under 281. Mark O'Meara (Pro V1, 909D3 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, 909H hybrid, New AP2 irons, Vokey Spin Milled TVD wedges, Scotty Cameron 303 GSS putter) finished at 5-under 283 to take fourth place.

Though he got off to a slow start in the final round, Lehman played his last 13 holes bogey-free at 3-under. He was the only player in the field to shoot four rounds under par at the Colorado Golf Club, co-designed by Ben Crenshaw.

Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at the Senior PGA Championship with 108 players, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 14. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 50 and SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 107.

JAPAN TOUR: Titleist Brand Ambassador Kyung-Tae Kim (Pro V1x, 909 D3 driver, 909 H hybrid, ZB/ZM irons, Vokey Spin Milled wedges) captured his first career Japan Golf Tour title with a two shot victory at the Diamond Cup Golf 2010. The 23-year-old Kim had posted five second place finishes over the last two seasons on the Japan Golf Tour before his breakout performance. The South Korean started the day with a six-shot lead and carded a final round one-under-par 71 for a 16-under 272 winning total .

With 57 players trusting their games to the #1 Ball in Golf at the Diamond Cup, Titleist continues its endurance as the most played GOLF BALL in every event of the 2010 Japan Golf Tour season. Titleist was also first in the HYBRID (30) and SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES (87) categories.

Cobra Golf Hong Kong announces introduction of new Baffler Rail Fairway

CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Cobra Golf Hong Kong announces the introduction of the new Baffler Rail Fairway, an entirely new class of long-game performance clubs for players seeking maximum forgiveness, power and control from the fairway.

Thirty-five years ago, Cobra Golf Hong Kong launched the original Baffler utility metal and forever revolutionized the way golfers play long approach shots. In 2004, the tradition continued with the introduction of the Baffler hybrid, followed by the Baffler DWS, then Baffler TWS iterations - which were the No. 1 selling hybrids in the game. This year, with inspiration drawn from years of knowledge, Cobra introduces the Baffler Rail Fairway, the perfect compliment to the Baffler Rail Hybrid.

"Baffler hybrids have long been known for their exceptional forgiveness, control and versatility," says Brian Zender, General Manager and SVP of Cobra-PUMA Golf. "Our R&D team applied technology from our hybrid series to create the high performance Baffler Rail Fairway. This entirely new line will appeal to golfers looking for more forgiveness and control in their long approach shots - as the Baffler Rail Fairway is the highest launching, easiest to hit fairway wood we've ever produced."

COBRA BAFFLER RAIL FAIRWAY
Cobra's Baffler Rail Fairway features a sleek-looking, 17-4 steel clubhead that has a thin, high-strength 465 maraging steel clubface designed to increase ball speed and distance. The elongated clubface and low-profile head result in a low, deep center of gravity - to help golfers launch the ball with ease - and a high Moment of Inertia for maximum forgiveness. The new four-way rail sole is designed to help the club move effortlessly through turf - to provide more consistent ball contact and improved control. The Baffler Rail Fairway features a premium, high-performance Fujikura Motore shaft for optimum distance and control.

"We've optimized every key performance attribute with the new Baffler Rail Fairway," says Tom Preece, Vice President of Research & Development for Cobra Golf. "The shallow clubface on the oversized clubhead will help get the ball airborne quickly and with ease. The four-way rail sole is designed to optimize contact with the turf, as the club comes into the ball. This forgiving design promotes more pure ball striking. The high-strength, maraging steel face - combined with our exclusive 9 Point Face Technology -- allows us to reposition weight low and back, to improve launch characteristics and optimize ball flight, and results in very little distance loss on off-center hits."

Oversize Design with Shallow Face
· A new, unique oversized head design and a very shallow face results in an extremely forgiving fairway wood that launches the ball with ease.

Innovative Rail Sole
· A four-way rail sole reduces the area of the club that comes in contact with the ground. The result is improved turf interaction and maximum forgiveness - making the Baffler Rail Fairway the most forgiving and versatile Cobra fairway wood ever.

High-Strength Steel Face with 9 Point Face Technology
· A thin, lightweight maraging steel face promotes faster ball speed and allows for 10 percent of the weight to be strategically repositioned low and back, for improved launch characteristics and an expanded sweet zone.
