TaylorMade Burner Plus Irons

TaylorMade® Golf Hong Kong has introduced the new Burner® Plus iron, developed for the 10+ handicap bomber who loves his Burner driver and wants an iron that shares the same personality and the same fast-and-long qualities.

"Our new Burner Plus irons possess one of the highest MOI measurements of any TaylorMade iron, making them super-forgiving and easy to hit," said Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade manager of iron creation. "These are so easy to launch that it's a blast to make a big swing and let them fly. We had a lot of fun designing them and are looking forward to the reception they receive among golfers who like to go long."

The big Burner Plus clubhead features a thin, fast and expansive clubface, significant perimeter weighting and an extremely low and deep-back CG that makes it easy to launch the ball high and long. Inverted Cone technology, visible on the back of the clubface, promotes faster ball speed and more distance on off-center hits. SuperFast technology (extremely light and slightly longer shaft, light grip) promotes faster swing speed for more distance.

Burner Plus irons look strong and easy to launch at address, with the large clubface and thick topline creating "can't miss" confidence. An increased degree of offset makes it easier to square the clubface to the ball, discouraging a fade and promoting a distance-enhancing draw.

At impact, the wide, beveled sole powers through turf to promote better results for a variety of descending downswing paths, and its bulk and weight work together to help get thin shots off the ground and all the way to the target. Also at impact, the thin and fast face delivers higher COR to promote faster ball speed and increased distance. The upshot of all of the above is an incredibly easy-to-hit iron that's built to deliver more forgiveness, speed and distance with every swing.

In addition to a standard set, Burner Plus irons are also available in a combo set that includes two TaylorMade Burner Rescue® clubs with Dual Crown technology. Men's combo set makeup is: Burner Rescues 3 and 4, Burner Plus 5-iron through PW.

"We took special care to address a common problem that's plagued many of our competitors’ combo sets, and that's the distance gap formed between the lowest iron and the highest hybrid," said Scott White, TaylorMade Golf Hong Kongcategory director for irons. "For example, if you average 170 yards with your 5-iron, and 190 yards with your 4-hybrid, you've got a 20-yard gap between those clubs, and that's a problem. We avoided that issue by carefully configuring the two Rescues in the Burner Plus combo set to deliver a distance-increase that's consistent with the distance-increase delivered from iron to iron; from the lob wedge all the way up to the 5-iron. Thus, if a player's distance-difference between each iron is 10 yards, he can be confident that his Rescue 4 will be 10 yards longer than his 5-iron, and that his Rescue 3 will be 10 yards longer than his Rescue 4."

Burner Plus irons are equipped with 47-gram TaylorMade arrow grips and TaylorMade SuperFast RE*AX® 60-gram graphite shafts in S, R, M and L flexes or SuperFast 85-gram lightweight steel in S, R and M flexes.

The Standard set consists of 4-iron through attack wedge, the Combo set consists of Burner Rescues 3 and 4, plus 5-iron through pitching wedge. Ladies' set consists of Burner Rescues 4 and 5, plus 6-iron through attack wedge. Available wedges include lob wedge (right-hand men's only), sand wedge, attack wedge and pitching wedge. In men's right-handed and left-handed, ladies' right-handed.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for a Standard set is $799 with graphite shaft, $599 with steel shaft; Combo set is $899 graphite, $699 steel; Ladies' Combo set is $899 graphite, 699 steel.

UBS to stay with Hong Kong Golf Open

The Hong Kong Golf Open has been handed a boost with news that UBS will stay as title sponsor of the event at the Hong Kong Golf Club from November 18-21, 2010.

UBS, the diversified global financial services company, has been title sponsor of the event since 2006 during which time it has overseen a substantial rise in the tournament's prize money.

Indeed, the total prize fund increased every year from US$1.2 million in the 2006 season to the US$2.5 million figure which will be on offer at the Fanling venue in six months time. In addition, the winner in November will pocket a cheque for US$416,660, compared to the US$200,000 won by Colin Montgomerie four years ago.

Beginning in 1959, the Hong Kong Golf Open became part of The European Tour International Schedule in the 2002 season and has a rich history of winners including nine different Major Champions who have amassed 25 Major titles between them.

Frenchman Grégory Bourdy will be the defending champion for the 2010 edition of the UBS Hong Kong Open - which will be co-sanctioned by The European Tour, the Asian Tour and the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) - having held off a stirring final day challenge from Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy to triumph at the historic course last November.

The victory, as well as seeing Bourdy win for the third season in succession on The European Tour, also saw him gain entry into the season-ending Dubai World Championship on The European Tour and the UBS Hong Kong Open will once again occupy the crucial penultimate tournament slot on The 2010 European Tour International Schedule, as well as being a vital part of the end of season countdown on the 2010 Asian Tour.

Chi-Won Yoon, UBS Asia Pacific Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said: "UBS is delighted to continue its association with Hong Kong's premier golf event. The UBS Hong Kong Open is a marquee tournament on Asia's golfing calendar and emblematic of the highest levels of professionalism in the region. We look forward to continuing our long and successful partnership with the HKGA and welcoming players and spectators alike to this year's event which, I am confident, will be as competitive as ever."

George O'Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, said: "The development of all aspects of the Hong Kong Open under UBS over the past five years is there for all to see and therefore, needless to say, we are delighted to see them continue as the title sponsor of the event.

"Together with the Asian Tour and the Hong Kong Golf Association, we are delighted to be co-sanctioning such a prestigious tournament and one which holds such a special place in Asian sporting folklore as the longest-running sporting event in Hong Kong."

Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han said: "On behalf of our talented members, I would like to express our fullest appreciation to UBS for extending its commitment as title sponsor of the Hong Kong Open which is one of our truly premier championships on the Asian Tour.

"UBS has played a significant role in the recent transformation of the Hong Kong Open into a world-class golfing spectacle and we believe its continued involvement will further benefit the tournament and the game in Asia."

As well as being co-sanctioned by The European Tour, the Asian Tour and the Hong Kong Golf Association, the UBS Hong Kong Open will also be the first tournament to be promoted by EurAsia Golf Ltd - the innovative alliance between The European Tour and the Asian Tour which was launched last July.

Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club

In addition, Clearwater Bay is proud to have one the best launch monitors in the world and are the first to have 'Trackman' in Hong Kong golf. Expect more in the future to keep us at the forefront of things, a leader for other Hong Kong golf courses to follow. In addition to these achievements, this Hong Kong golf club also embarked on a Special Spring Green Fee Promotion Package, attracting over 1,350 guests and getting green fee revenues in excess of HK$1.2 million. At the same time, cart paths at holes 8 and 9 were completed and "Sand Mat" bunker liners were installed. They greatly reduce sand erosion during heavy rainstorms. All in all, we achieved a lot this year, and it's a very solid basis to grow on for the year to come! Let's enjoy it together, and remember, keep on trying your best on the course!

The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club was happy to share with members that several successful maintenance and upgrade projects were undertaken or started during the 2008/2009 period, and are now completed. These include resurfacing of the badminton courts, renovation of the Fitness Centre changing rooms, and conversion of the video games room into a large Kids' Party Room, and the Arts and Crafts Room into a new Cyber Zone. These new facilities in Hong Golf have created a truly wonderful recreational experience, something that Hong Kong golfers always try to offer to members. Overall, we were very busy this year as you can see, which is a very good sign that we are doing all the right things.

A fantastic variety of events were organised for members throughout the year, with the Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup and Clearwater Bay Chase the most notable, providing much excitement as well. Organised programmes continued to grow in size and variety with tennis leading the way. Members' golfing interests were also catered for with the regular Executive Nine Members and Guests Tournament and the Executive Nine Junior Open Tournament organised throughout the year. The Clearwater Bay U.S. Kids Golf World Championship 2009 co-organised with U.S. They still don't have a Full Swing golf Simulator in Hong Kong like City Links Golf or Express Golf Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Kids Golf attracted 108 junior golfers competing for entry to the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship held in North Carolina in August. Children were spoilt for choice as well, with lots of camps and classes. At the same time the ladies were not left out, with service upgrades at the Clearwater Spa and new treatments. When it comes to fun, everyone is included, and it's just great to see the kids enjoying themselves.

The Hong Kong Country Club facilities will be further improved during the early part of 2010 with refurbishment of the swimming pool changing rooms and replacement of the cracked swimming pool timber decking with floor tiles, when members can look forward to a more user-friendly swimming facility. Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club is very much anticipating something very special when these facility upgrades are done. If you don't play this Hong Kong golf club, go tee it up at City Links Golf in Central and get a free Hong Kong golf lesson.

Lessons and Golf Training

Hong Kong Golf Club is protecting our planet earth, it is our duty as global Hong Kong golfer citizens. The Hong Kong golf course with each day to this end, we remodeled and have started distributing by the Bay quarterly from October 2008, and published a new monthly golf lessons newsletter green.bay since August 2008. Accordingly, we have increased the usage of email campaigns and our first-ever online communication survey was carried out in August 2009 take a golf lesson in Hong Kong.

Other successful initiatives include events with the Bush Walking Society, Social Dance Society, and Baby Member Society, among others. The recent members' communications survey showed that our community is keen to embrace more environmental initiatives, and to this end, the Hong Kong Golf Club are introducing e-Birthday cards, e-Christmas cards, an e-book version of by the Bay, a new video-clippings section on the website, all of which are part of the effort to improve efficiency and be ever-more environmentally friendly and Hong Kong golf school.

Golf Hong Kong training is always one of life's greatest joys, but it's been challenging with the worldwide financial crisis. Having said this, members will be excited to see the Golf Division continuing to make very positive golf progress throughout 2008/2009 and achieving not only budget quotas but also increasing gross operating surplus and golf lessons in Hong Kong holding many charity events as well. These are very positive signs and indication that things are heading in the right direction in terms of finances, and helping the community get better at golf through golf training in Hong Kong professionals.

Hong Kong golf courses I'm certain we can make these offerings even better in the future. In other matters, our community work took a new sense of depth this year. In October 2008, our Members & Guests Charity Hong Kong Golf Day raised over HK$680,000 for the very worthwhile School Rebuilding Project in Sichuan, showing we care a lot for the community we live in. In February 2009 Lifeline Express garnered over HK$250,000 for a mobile eye clinic, another worthy cause.

This year also saw us run a charity pro-am golf tournament in April for Haven of Hope Holistic Care Centre, raising more than HK$500,000. These are fantastic projects benefitting many people, and things that we can be very proud of, while we are on the golf course. It's rather satisfying that our Driving Range Renovation Project was completed in March 2009. We now have state-of-the-art teaching facilities and the first indoor/outdoor teaching studio in Hong Kong golf.

Hong Kong Golf Looks Good for Clearwater Bay

Hong Kong golf and Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Yet these efforts are only made possible by our continued financial success. In spite of all the challenges, overall Club operating revenue was above last year and the Marina's income was also better than last year. Meanwhile, membership numbers remain sound for Hong Kong Golf. This, given the tough economic times we live in, is a fantastic achievement. These healthy numbers make it smoother for Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club to carry out improvements at the Club, including building the Country Club passenger lift, carrying out wall repainting and access road resurfacing. Meanwhile, food or beverage prices stayed the same and we continued to offer innovations and deliciousness with several new promotions.

As I walk around the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club, I see a very tranquil, positive and friendly Hong Kong Golf community – this is one thing about our community that never changes. Similarly, I and Hong Kong Golf are delighted that we are seeing out the economic crisis in such stellar fashion – thank you for your continued support and I look forward to sharing a prosperous 2010 with you. Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club have had a very pleasing year, financially, which is gratifying in these tough times for Hong Kong Golf. The 2008 Surrender & Re-issue Scheme was opened on 22 June 2008 and closed on 30 June 2009. A total of 10 quotas for Golf and 45 quotas for the Country Club & Marina were filled, including three additional quotas for Hong Kong Golf and two additional quotas for Marina. In addition, the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club General Committee approved two special quotas for surrender and re-issue arrangements in 2008.

A total revenue of HK$26,021,250 was generated for the quota year of 2008 at Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club. All in all, things are looking healthy. Aside from our strong financial footing, this year has also been incredibly successful for our events, including the Members & Guests Charity Golf Day, with 101 enthusiastic players; the Hong Kong Golf Champions Cup, which saw many spectators come and plenty of media interest; the Lifeline Express Charity Golf Day with 28 teams competing; the ever popular Clearwater Bay Chase featuring more than 730 runners and the fun-filled Annual Committee Dinner; all of which raised funds for worthwhile causes. What fun we have had while doing good for the community! Hong Kong Golf have also continued to let Hans Andersen use our pool for their children, and are proud to receive the Caring Company Logo for the fifth consecutive year, another sign that we are benefitting the wider community through our operations. This is very encouraging, and we should continue in these efforts to benefit those less fortunate who can't play golf in Hong Kong.

Clearwater Bay Golf Hong Kong

Clearwater Bay Hong Kong Golf Charity Golf Day raised over HK$680,000 for the School Rebuilding Project in Sichuan, which I'm sure you'll agree is a cause we all believe in. We were all saddened by the earthquake tragedy in Sichuan, and to see us doing something good for the victims shows the great power of our community. In other charitable works, The Clearwater Bay Golf Hong Kong Charity Pro-Am Tournament for Haven of Hope Holistic Care Centre raised more than HK$500,000 for people in need. In addition to this, we have supported organisations such as Hans Andersen providing free use of our facilities to their members.

As a result of our efforts, we have received the Caring Company Logo for the fifth consecutive year, a fact I am incredibly proud of. Let's continue with these good efforts for the community and Hong Kong golf. I feel that our overall approach is healthy and we have enhanced this with wellness programmes for members by providing more healthy eating choices at the Club and setting up programmes to keep our staff fit and motivated. On another note, the environment is of great interest to myself, and to all our members, and we have endeavoured to help conservation efforts across the Club to conserve energy and water, making membership communications "greener", all of which ultimately help preserve the earth and is good for Hong Kong golfers.

While the financial tsunami raged all around us this year, I am very encouraged by the way we have weathered the storm and come out of it in healthy condition. It is also a matter of personal pride that we helped the community as well this year, both in our locale, across Hong Kong golf courses and in other places of need far and wide. Alongside our exciting events such as Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup we held several Hong Kong golf days that extended a very charitable hand to worthy causes – while providing a great day out as well.

TaylorMade Golf Hong Kong's R9 Fairway Woods

TaylorMade Golf Hong Kong Introduces R9 Fairway Woods Engineered with TaylorMade Hong Kong New Flight Control Technology to Give Golfers the Power to Adjust the Clubhead Characteristics Eight Ways R9 TP Fairway Woods with Tour-Caliber 85-gram Fujikura Motore F1 also Unveiled CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 19, 2009) - TaylorMade-adidas Golf has introduced two new fairway wood models, the R9™ and R9™ TP, both with TaylorMade's innovative new Flight Control Technology (FCT) that allows the player to adjust the head characteristics – face angle, loft and lie -- in one of eight ways. FCT in both the R9 and R9 TP fairway woods promotes a side-to-side trajectory change of up to 35 yards, helping players to dial in straighter, longer shots.

An added advantage of FCT is that it allows players to dial in the look they prefer at address, with the face angle either square, slightly closed or slightly open, promoting increased confidence. "Tour pros have their metalwoods tweaked often to change the clubhead's performance and appearance at address," said Sean Toulon, TaylorMade golf hong kong executive vice president of innovation. "FCT allows every golfer to make similar changes in seconds." TaylorMade golf Hong Kong Flight Control Technology How does FCT work? It starts with a small metallic sleeve positioned over the tip of the shaft.

The shaft is secured to the clubhead with a specially made bolt in the bottom of the clubhead. The FCT bolt is designed to be retained in the well to eliminate the chance of losing it. The sleeve, made of high-strength 7075-T6 aluminum alloy, is ringed around the bottom with small teeth, which tightly mesh with a second ring of matching teeth within the hosel. You can change the clubhead's characteristics (face angle, loft, lie) by loosening the FCT bolt, removing the shaft from the head, rotating the sleeve and shaft into a specified position, then locking them into that position within the head with the FCT bolt. The R9 fairway wood offers eight clubhead positions. Changing from one position to another is easy and takes only a matter of seconds. It's important to recognize that as the face angle closes, the loft increases; and as the face angle opens, the loft decreases.

Thus R9 Taylormade golf hong kong fairway woods are engineered to promote trajectories that are 1) increasingly higher, long-carrying and which move from right-to-left; 2) increasingly lower, more controllable and which move from left-to-right; or 3) neutral, relatively straight ball flight of a mid-level height. TaylorMade's "New Classic" Clubhead Shape The R9 fairway wood's clubhead features TaylorMade's "new classic" shape, which beautifully combines traditional and contemporary lines to create a clubhead that's particularly easy to aim and which sets up cleanly and beautifully behind the ball at address. The CG location, meanwhile, is more than 50 percent lower than the similarly sized r7 fairway woods.

That's a dramatic difference that helps make R9 fairways incredibly easy to launch. The new classic shape also delivers high MOI for great stability on off-center hits, which also contributes to the R9 fairways' ease of use. On the underside of the head an advanced sole design, more rounded and beveled than in previous TaylorMade metalwoods, reduces the amount of sole area that comes into contact with the turf. R9 fairways are equipped with a 70-gram Fujikura Motore graphite shaft. Loft options include: Tour 3-wood (stronger lofted at 13°), 3-wood (15°), 4-wood (17°) and 5-wood (19°); X, S and R shafts; both right- and left-handed. Availability begins on March 20, 2009 at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $275 per club. R9 TP Fairway Woods R9 fairway woods are also offered in a TP version (Tour Preferred), which are equipped with a more advanced, tour-caliber 85-gram Fujikura Motore F1. Loft options in include: Tour 3-wood (stronger lofted at 13°), 3-wood (15°), 4-wood (17°) and 5-wood (19°); X, S and R shafts; both right- and left-handed.
